Kendrick Lamar - The Jig Is Up (Dump'n) [Prod. by J.Cole

After the successful release of Kendrick Lamar's debut album, he gives us another banger. The jig is up, produced by J.Cole. Cole and Kendrick have hinted at a album together but the word is this is not a part of that project. Kendrick released this for appreciation day. I look forward to hearing more tracks from Kendrick and Cole.   Check out the link below for a free download of the new track.

10 Years Gone But Not Forgotten

It's been 10 years since Jam Master Jay. Left this world. He may be gone but of course not forgotten. We all know he was one of the best to do it and was part of one of the best groups in Hiphop history, Run DMC. R.I.P. JMJ

HipHop In Architecture

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the National Organization for Minority Architects national conference.. This was my first conference but from the experience I had, I promise it wont be my last. While I was there I was exposed to variety of people, some young some old. But all positive and all with the same common goal. The goal to help each other and staying positive through the education of Architecture. While there I attended a Seminars and lectures, but of all the lectures, there was only one that really jumped out at me. It was entitled HipHop Inspired Architecture in design. This was all presented by a young man by the name of Michael Ford, Associate AIA.  With this presentation he touch on a lot of great points some we knew and many that I had no clue about.  One of the most interesting points was that Georgetown University has a course title "Sociology of Hip Hop: Jay-Z. This course is taught by Michael Eric Dyson. I would love to sit through one lecture to see what the class covers or how its structured.

Although I cant cover everything that Mike Ford goes through, If you ever get a chance to see or hear this lecture I would, it gives a different perspective to Architecture and Music.

Kendrick Lamar: Good Kid M.A.A.D City

The highly anticipated Kendrick Lamar album, Good Kid M.A.A.D. City was released yesterday. After a full day of listening it didn't take long to release this is a  great album.  Giving a great look at what appears to be a look into his life growing up on the streets of Compton. Teamed with the great production of Dr. Dre and the rhymes and flow we have grown to love from Kendrick makes for a great album. Some look at new albums and if there are not alot of features they pass it up I ask this question to them, Do you buy a album to hear the same people that are on everyone eleses project or do you buy it to listen to the person album that is the main artist ? I'm glad that its mostly Kendrick and not Everyone else. With that said I'm sure this will be on repeat in the Ipod for a while. There has been a few lack luster Cd's released this year. There has only been 2 or 3 really good projects released this year that you can listen to the whole cd from start to finish and then want to go back and listen to the project again and not skip any songs. But this was really a breath of fresh air and a different experience. Kendrick channels his inner West Coast with out sounding like your typical West Coast artists. This is a must have CD that i'm sure most people are going to sleep on but should have in the collection. If you don't get it you will missing out.

New FREEWAY MIXTAPE

Yesterday Philly Freeway released a new Mixtape entitled Freedom of Speech. To most Freeway has been away from the main stream scene for some while. To the true hip hop heads you already know Freeway still gets down and has continued even after the fall of Roc A Fella. Freedom of Speech was released exclusively on Datpiff for Free. (No pun intended). For those looking to hear real Philly flow, check out the New Freeway release. I have not gone through all the songs yet but from the first 7 of 16 tracks its worth the free download.

BET Hip Hop Awards Cyphers

Check out the BET Cyphers.

Its great to see the BET Hip Hop Awards Cyphers come this far.. Bringing all the regions of the states together. One of the biggest surprises was to see DMX. I think everyone killed it. Some flows you could tell were not free styles but all in all it was a great cypher this year. Bet took the time to expose some new artist that many people never get a chance to hear on there local stations. Tons of great metphors and lyrics came out of the cypher. If I had to pick two from all the cyphers I think Cassidy and Talib went hard.. With the runner up being Mac Miller.

First up Grand Hustle.

BET did a amazing job with putting together the Chris Lighty tribute. Bringing out the Violater camp to perform was great. Getting people on the same stage that had beef in the past was ever better. It was a true testiment to Chris Lighty..

Black Bar Mitzvah

A few days ago Rick Ross released a mixtape titled. Black Bar Mitzvah.. This mixtape comes only 2 months behind his major label release of God Forgives I don't. Typically I don't like to make my judgement on Cd's/ Mixtapes until I can hear it a few times. The first time I go thru each track and I give the track 30 seconds. Just to see if it pulls me in with the beat alone. The second time around I try to listen to the lyrics. Third time I try to pull out anything that I may have missed the first few times.  With this it was tough, Most of the beats were all bangers from this summer. Clique, Mercy, Bands etc... That was a bummer for me, I was not expecting Ross to take the Lil Wayne aproach and take the banger beats and put out a whole mixtape.. To me This should have been called G.O.O.D Music remixes. Of course Ross gives you a healthy doss MMG. There are a few features as well but honestly there is nothing to run and tell your friends about. The great thing about this Mixtape is  that it is Free. You can download it  @ datpiff.com.

NBA 2K13 RELEASES TODAY

Today is a very happy but sad day for me. Of course I'm happy about being able to play this years installment of NBA basketball. But it also marks another year with out a title from EASports. Yet again 2k sports has produced a product to outstanding that EAsports has cancelled its title all together. Please keep in mind that I am a die hard NBA Live fan. I have been playing EASports basketball games since Lakers Vs. Celtics. And it took a lot for me finally go over to the dark side of 2k Sports and purchase a title. No matter how great or how realistic the game is, I have the vivid memory of Dreamcast 2k sports games.  Of course 2k stepped up and have the games sound track excutive produced by Jay-z.  So not only do you get great game play, you get some cuts from Shawn Carter.  I have played the demo thus far for the 2k13 title.  It was not bad. It was cool that they introduced a online mode for the demo. The bad part is that its only 1 quarter long. (GIVE US MORE) Below is one of the trailer video's from EASports for the cancelled NBA Live 13.

Until next year I hope for those die hard Live fans like me.

Here is the trailer for this years NBA 2k13. And of course even in the trailer you get your fix of Jay-Z.
